Did I tell my fishing buddies about my cunning presentation? Not for awhile!īass 2 Trout 1 Crappie 3 Catfish 2 Bluegill 2 ![]() After a fight of several minutes (I still can’t believe my 25-pound test line held up), I netted a 43-pound, 45 1/2-inch striper. The sudden jolt about jerked me out of the boat as something very big took off going under the boat. About halfway in I thought I better hurry up and started reeling at warp speed. Couple minutes later I was ready to go, so I picked up the pole and began reeling my lure in. I set the pole down with my bail open and went to the rear of my boat. I walked to the front of the boat and cast my lure out and let it go to the bottom while I put my lures away. I only had about 15 minutes left to fish so I began putting stuff away and cleaning the boat while the trolling motor kept me in place over a point. Last October I was again scouting alone (weird things happen when I’m out by myself!) and I had only gotten a few bites all day. The best part: They believed me! Yes, it was all skill. Of course I called my buddies to tell them I had a new technique of slowly dragging my lure across the bottom. The 13-pound striper felt me and took off as I laughed at the ludicrous situation. When the bottom started slowly moving in another direction it dawned on me that it might be a fish. I grabbed the pole and thought the lure must be hooked on the bottom. That’s when I realized my pole in the front of the boat was slowly getting pulled over the side. ![]()
